Engineers for industry

Italy is one of Europe's largest machinery producers and a big buyer of Nordic equipment, steel, pulp and automation. Nordic industrial companies hire here for field service, applications engineering and supplier quality, close to customers and suppliers.

Usual CCNL

Metalworking (Metalmeccanico industria): levels, pay tables, travel rules and shift premiums in detail. The closest Nordic parallel is the engineering-industry agreements.

Roles

Field service engineers, mechanical and electrical design, automation and PLC, applications engineers, supplier quality, project managers.

Where

The industrial north: Lombardy (Milan, Brescia, Bergamo), Emilia-Romagna (Bologna, Modena, Reggio Emilia), Veneto (Vicenza, Padua), Piedmont (Turin).

Salary bands

RoleCCNL levelGross annual salary
Junior engineer[level][€ range to verify]
Field service engineer[level][€ range to verify]
Senior / project lead[level][€ range to verify]

Points to settle

  • Travel rules. The CCNL sets travel allowances and how travel time counts. Price it in for field roles.
  • Safety. Risk assessment, safety training and health checks for the role are mandatory. We book them before any customer or site visit.
  • Injury insurance. INAIL premiums follow the risk class; field and site roles cost more than office roles. [INAIL rate for technical roles to verify]
  • Trips to Sweden or Finland. Training at your plant is a business trip. Longer assignments in another EU country need a posting notification there; we handle it.
  • Service van or car. Usual for service engineers, with fuel card and tolls, managed as benefits.
  • CCNL extras. The Metalworking agreement includes a supplementary health fund and flexible benefits, paid as part of the employment cost.

Cost example

A field service engineer under the Metalworking CCNL: gross salary, industry contributions, 13th month, TFR, travel allowances on actual trips, plus €250 a month. Travel varies, so it is billed on actuals.
