Take-home pay in Italy

Italian candidates compare offers on net monthly pay. Enter the annual gross and the city to see it under 2026 rules: employee contributions, income tax with employment credits, local surcharges.

ItemPer year

Assumes one employee, no dependants, no other income. Rates are taken from professional sources and not yet checked against the official texts secondary. Where the full regional scale was not available, the first published band is used [full regional scales to be added].

How it is calculated

  1. Employee social security comes off first: 9.19% of gross, plus one extra point on pay above €56,224 a year.
  2. IRPEF is charged on the remainder, band by band: 23% to €28,000, 33% from €28,000 to €50,000, 43% beyond.
  3. Employment tax credits then cut the tax, most on low salaries, fading to nothing at €50,000; between €20,000 and €40,000 a further credit of up to €1,000 applies.
  4. Last come the regional and municipal surcharges, unless income sits under the city's exemption threshold.

Unlike Swedish municipal tax, these surcharges are small, but they differ by city. None of it changes your employer cost: see the cost calculator.
